Baltzer Meyer Historical Society is your community historical society. We are located in Hempfield Township right outside of Greensburg. We own two buildings of great historic value: a one-room, red brick schoolhouse (Harrold Schoolhouse #8 of the old Sewickley Settlement) built in 1881, and the Old Zion Lutheran Church built in 1884. The property on which these two buildings are located is part of the original 158-acre tract of land called “Good Purpose.” Early settlers set this tract aside for the specific use of church and school. We are working to preserve these historic buildings and make them available for museum, classroom, and community use.
We are a non-profit organization 501 c (3). Your membership or donation provides critical operating funds that enables us to keep our doors open!

Everything housed in Baltzer Meyer Historical has been donated by generous people like you, to be preserved and exhibited for present and future generations. We need your help to continue operating and preserving the genealogy library, artifacts, photos, newspapers (1898, 1899 and after) and buildings.
